Cambridge Cambridge Shopping

Shopping in Cambridge, From Fashion to Harvard Square

In addition to popular retailers like Anthropologie, Urban Outfitters, and The Gap, visitors will find countless boutiques, independent storefronts, and malls while shopping in Cambridge. Whether you're browsing for souvenirs, looking for fashion, or indulging in serious retail therapy, Cambridge shopping won't disappoint the most well-traveled spenders.

Black Ink

This local Boston chain is full of quirky, so-called "unexpected necessities" that seamlessly blend function with form. Shop for pencil dispensers, stationery, and over-sized paper clips. Black Ink Cambridge: 5 Brattle St.; 617-497-1221

The Curious George Store

Fans of the famous children's book tale (and even those that aren't) will love spending an afternoon perusing the world's only shop dedicated entirely to Curious George. Find books, toys, greeting cards, and clothing (including a Curious George onesie) for your little ones. Or, of course, for you. The Curious George Store: 1 John F. Kennedy St.; 617-547-4500

Fresh Pond Mall

Only a three minute walk from Freepoint Hotel Cambridge, Tapestry Collection, travelers needing a more serious shopping experience can head to Fresh Pond Mall. Whole Foods, Cambridge Wine & Spirits, and Modell's are just a few of the shops in the directory. Fresh Pond Mall: 545 Concord Ave.; 617-491-4431

Formaggio Kitchen Cambridge

Beer aficionados will find a rotating bar menu of at nearly 160 drafts and bottles. The only thing more impressive than this tavern's beer menu, is its whiskey list (more than 150 selections strong). Five Horses Tavern: 400 Highland Ave.; 617-764-1655

Flour Bakery and Cafe

For more than three decades, chefs (including Freepoint Hotel Cambridge, Tapestry Collection's Matthew Gaudet) and locals alike have been flocking to Formaggio Kitchen for Sardinian honeys, artisanal cured meats, and white sturgeon caviar. Formaggio Kitchen Cambridge: 244 Huron Ave.; 617-354-4750

Goorin Bros. Hat Shop

As the oldest family-owned hat shop in the nation, this Harvard Square outpost is the perfect place to find a custom-fit fedora or traditional cloche. Goorin Bros.: 43 Brattle St.; 617-868-4287

Juliet

An ambitious new addition to Cambridge's competitive scene, Juliet-run by Joshua Lewin and Katrina Jazayeri is our favorite spot for brunch. The couple's first brick-and-mortar restaurant in Somerville serves soft-cooked omelets with wild mushrooms and fresh herbs and toast with cured salmon topped with tamarind and yogurt. Juliet: 257 Washington St., Somerville; 617-718-0958

The Harvard Shop

All Harvard Square shopping sprees should include trips to The Harvard Shop, a student-run store selling everything from Harvard crest sweatshirts to glassware and mugs. The Harvard Shop: 65 Mt. Auburn St.; 617-495-0317

Joie de Vivre

Since 1984, Joie de Vivre has been a Cambridge go-to for whimsical gifts and items that seem to transcend age. If you've been in need of a slinky, kaleidoscope, or a set of sloth wineglass charms, this is the spot for you. Joie de Vivre: 1792 Massachusetts Ave.; 617-864-8188

WardMaps LLC

On Massachusetts Avenue, near Porter Square, WardMaps specializes in antique maps - particularly those of Boston, Cambridge, and the surrounding area. WardMaps LLC: 1735 Massachusetts Ave; 617-497-0737

Zinnia Jewelry

Harvard Square's outpost of this boutique jeweler specializes in hand-picked, statement accessories. Don't come here for diamonds, though. Zinnia is best for gorgeous wood-carved earrings and turquoise and beaded necklaces. Zinnia Jewelry: 1300 Massachusetts Ave.; 617-354-1800
